26 years ago I was born in beautiful Muiden. When I was 8, I decided, just like my grandfather and grandmother, to play the violin. A good choice, because since then music has always played a big role in my life and I tried to play with as many orchestras as possible. In February 2013 I took the wise decision to audition for the Ricciotti (which I really did not know about at the time) and after my first tour I fell in love immediately. With the music, the people, the performance locations and the bus trips. All the wonderful experiences made me realize that Ricciotti for me is what cocaine is for Elton John: I can not live without it.

The last summer tour of the Ricciotti was a very nice one. We played such great music in so many beautiful places, it is almost impossible to compete with that. The tour was exciting and energetic, thanks to Ramón Valle, our amazing soloist. He taught us all the tricks, with his knowledge and musicality about the Cuban musical styles, such as rumba, salsa, mambo, reggaeton and much more. Ramón has prepared us for Cuba, and I'm really looking forward to that.

The tour to Cuba will be my 6th foreign tour with the Ricciotti ensemble, and if I look back to the past years, I think that Cuba may be the icing on the cake. After each tour I say that the last tour was the best, but I think Cuba will exceed all expectations. I have been told that they can be so enthusiastic about music in Cuba that we can’t hear ourselves play, because they will be singing so loudly. Can you imagine something like that !?

What Ricciotti does is magical, and it is so cool to convey that magic to people around the world. It does not matter where you come from or what language you speak, music connects. During a performance by the Ricciotti you can have a great conversation with the audience, without even saying a word. That is what makes music so special to me: it is a universal language. I expect to see and learn a lot of new things in Cuba, but above all I hope that we can make music everywhere and for everyone, because that is the best thing there is.
