Quick to: Overview performances / Soloist / Repertoire / Members / Tourjournaal / Funds
This summer, the Ricciotti ensemble will cross the border into Belgium. Although Belgian and Dutch cultures are very closely related, it’s surprising how little we in the Netherlands know about the music of our southern neighbors. So, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore this during our Tour de Belgique! To fulfill our mission of performing everywhere and for everyone, we’re bringing soloist Anaïs Vijgen along. Together with this Flemish singer, we aim to connect with our audience by, for example, performing Jacques Brel’s Ne Me Quitte Pas in both Dutch and French. The Ricciotti will also play classical works by the ‘Belgian Brahms,’ Lodewijk Mortelmans, and we’ll shine a spotlight on the saxophone, honoring its Belgian inventor, Adolphe Sax. Naturally, our musical journey through the Netherlands and Belgium will also include tunes related to Tintin, Toots Thielemans, and Stromae!

Soloist
Jazz singer Anaïs Vijgen is soloist during our Tour de Belgique.
When did you start making music?
“I started playing classical violin when I was 4 years old. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember.”
Would you like to share a special musical memory with us?
“It’s not a memory but a story I was told. We were on a family trip to the sea. At a restaurant on the dike, a violinist was playing near our terrace. I was 3 years old and stood dancing in front of her all evening. My parents couldn’t get me away. I share that story when people ask me where my fascination with music comes from: it’s always been there.”
Which artist (living or deceased) would you like to have a coffee with, if you could?
“Betty Davis is often described as ‘a wild, flamboyant funk diva who has no equal.’ I would love to go to a pub with her and ask what it was like to challenge the system in the 70s and create a new image of women. Or maybe just share a drink and see what happens...”
