In het najaar van 2026 gaat het Ricciotti Ensemble op tour door Nederland met het thema ‘recycling’. Tijdens Ricciotti’s Recycle Tour richten we ons op het vergroten van de bewustwording rondom hergebruik. Het hergebruik van materialen krijgt tegenwoordig – gelukkig – steeds meer aandacht in allerlei sectoren. In de muziek is recycling wel al eeuwenlang een vanzelfsprekend onderdeel van het creatieve proces. Denk aan thema’s en variaties, de rondovorm, het gebruik van samples in elektronische muziek of het hergebruik van het Dies Irae-motief. En natuurlijk: arrangementen, de meest rechtstreekse vorm van ‘upcycling’.
Omdat het Ricciotti Ensemble tijdens iedere tournee zo’n 25 werken uitvoert waarvan een groot deel oorspronkelijk niet voor onze bezetting geschreven is, wordt er voortdurend voor ons gearrangeerd. Het is dus weer de hoogste tijd dat we alle (toekomstige) arrangeurs in Nederland en omstreken in het zonnetje zetten en hun onmisbare rol binnen de muziekwereld benadrukken. Daarom organiseert het Ricciotti Ensemble voor de achtste keer een open, landelijke arrangeerwedstrijd – uniek in Nederland.
The assignment
Kies jouw favoriete klassieke tophit uit de Klassieke Top 400 van 2025 en maak hiervan een arrangement voor de bezetting van het Ricciotti Ensemble waarmee je het in een nieuw jasje steekt. De duur van je arrangement mag tussen de 3 en maximaal 5 minuten zijn. Je krijgt hiervoor volledige artistieke vrijheid. Wel zijn er bonuspunten voor arrangementen die op een creatieve manier thema’s als recycling, kringloop en/of duurzaamheid verwerken. Prizes
The three best arrangements will be included in the repertoire for our autumn tour (17–22 October 2026) and performed multiple times throughout the Netherlands during the tour.
In addition, the winners will receive the following cash prizes and will be eligible for the Audience Award .
– 1st Prize: €1500
- 2nd Prize: €1000
- 3rd prize €750
A new feature of this edition of Ricciotti's Arranging Competition is Ricciotti's Radio Prize. Before the finals, one arrangement will be selected for performance during an episode of the Radio 4 program Vrij Spel on NPO Klassiek.

Finals and prize ceremony
The final will take place on the evening of Sunday, 18 October 2026, at the Verhalenhuis in Haarlem.

Judging Criteria
All anonymized PDFs of the arrangements are reviewed by a three-person jury. During the review attention is paid to:
- Suitability for the Ricciotti ensemble and its audiences (read here about us)
- Originality
- Composition technique (formal qualities)
- Orchestration (effectiveness)
- Harmonization
- Layout and presentation
- Notation and articulation
Instrumentation
2 flutes (of which possibly 1 piccolo)
2 oboes
2 clarinets (in B flat major)
2 alto saxophones (in E flat major)
2 bassoons
2 horns (in F minor)
2 trumpets (in B flat major)
1 trombone
2 percussionists (including 1 drummer and 1 classical percussionist)
8 1st violins , 6 2nd violins, 5 violas, 4 cellos, 3 double basses (of which 1 possibly amplified double bass or bass guitar)
3 contrabassen (waarvan 1 eventueel versterkte contrabas of basgitaar)
Percussion: drum kit, 3 tunable rototoms (for timpani parts), glockenspiel, bongos, cymbals a2, tam-tam and small percussion (triangle/woodblocks/tambourine/etc.)
